Description

Emerson Plant Feasibility Study, Fall 2011

[Spreadsheet model]

Economic and environmental benefits of repurposing the Emerson Transmission factory in Ithaca, NY, using different configurations of combined heat and power, district heating, renewable energy, and energy storage.  Along with final report, spreadsheet model is available for download.

Port Authority Green Building Study, Fall 2011

The second in a series of studies for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (PANYNJ), this study looks at costs and benefits of electric vehicle charging stations, green roofs, and photovoltaic installations for three PANYNJ properties (Stewart Airport, Teterboro Airport, and the Holland Tunnel).

Commercial green building, Spring 2011

Project in collaboration with Port Authority of New York & New Jersey to test economic feasibility of green building features on proposed commercial structure for Stewart International Airport, Newburgh, NY.

Residential green building, Spring 2011

Project situated in Ithaca, NY, to test economic viability and green benefits of energy efficiency and renewable energy in a proposed environmentally friendly neighborhood.

Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) Feasibility, Fall 2010

Explores the economic and energy viability of PHEVs as an alternative to conventional cars, as well as potential reductions in ecological impact.  Also explores the requirements for a project rollout in the greater Los Angeles area.

New York State wind energy feasibility, Spring 2010

The second in a series of reports on wind energy, this study assesses the feasibility and potential of wind energy in New York state, and also evaluates the feasibility of the proposed Black Oak wind project in Enfield, NY.

Better Place All-Electric Vehicle Feasibility Study, Fall 2009

Evaluates the business model proposed by the Better Place Start-up to provide infrastructure for charging electric vehicles with renewable electricity, with a specific focus on a rollout in Hawaii.

US wind energy feasibility, Spring 2009

The first in a series of reports on wind energy, this project looked at developments both in specific countries and by specific industry players, and then assessed three different projects: the Klondike project in Oregon, offshore wind in the Nantucket Sound, and a small wind development for Greek Peak Mountain Resort in Virgil, NY.

U.S. Transportation CO2 reduction III, Spring 2009

The third in a series of projects on reducing CO2 from US transportation, this project extends the work of the previous two by considering air and water transportation, and by improving the freight modeling.

U.S. Transportation CO2 reduction II, Fall 2008

The second in a series of projects on reducing CO2 from US transportation, this project builds on the first report by improving the accuracy of the underlying spreadsheet model.

U.S. Transportation CO2 reduction I, Spring 2008

The first in a series of projects on reducing CO2 from US transportation, this project adopts the goal of 80% reduction in US CO2 emissions by 2050 and works backwards to explore the implications for technological options on both the passenger and freight sides

Hydrogen Fuel Cell Vehicle (HFCV) Feasibility Study II, Fall/Spring 2004-05

This project extended the 200304 work by assessing the interaction between HFCV and hybrid-electric vehicle (HEV) rollout, and by developing a plan for implementing hydrogen infrastructure in the greater Los Angeles metropolitan area.

Hydrogen Fuel Cell Vehicle (HFCV) Feasibility Study I, Fall/Spring 2004-05

This project assessed the feasibility of introducing HFCVs as a substitute for conventional vehicles through a model projecting future purchase cost per vehicle, a world hydrogen transition model to assess effect of rollout on energy demand and CO2 emissions, and a rollout of hydrogen in the greater Washington DC area.
