CEE Alums Audrey & David StormCEE Alumni Audrey Storm was awarded the Charlottesville Woman magazine's "4 Under 40" prize. The magazine selected four women who's lives reflect a dedication to community-mindedness, innovation and a balance between career and family. This award, which is in its first year, was created to recognize what these women "do to make the area even better than anyone thought it could be"

Audrey Storm was nominated for the award by her husband David for her work as a civil engineer in the construction field. He says, “By being a female face in the field and not just in the office Audrey can inspire women to take on challenges they might believe are closed to them and for girls still in school by learning about Audrey they can believe that they can grow up to do anything.”

From the profile on Audrey in Charlottesville Woman:

Audrey Storm, 37, is not surprised she wound up in construction—she knew she wanted to be a civil engineer from the time she was in high school. She has spent nearly five years as the director of construction services for Habitat for Humanity of Greater Charlottesville.

“My high school graduating class had 43 people,” says Audrey. But it was during her junior and senior years in that small town that she worked as an intern at General Motors. “They moved us around intentionally to be introduced to different fields. I worked in the metrology lab, in the environmental department and the plant engineering department. I knew at that point I was going to be an engineer. I knew even more that I was going to be a civil engineer.”

She graduated from Cornell with an engineering degree and took a job with Clarke Construction near Washington, D.C. “I packed up all my stuff in the back of a pickup truck and moved down not having a place to rent.”
