I say concrete canoe and people laugh. Wouldn’t it sink they always ask? Surprisingly no. Had we used ordinary concrete that is used in construction of buildings then yes it would sink like a rock, but we cheat just a little. When we mix our concrete we add in millions of tiny glass mircospheres. These microspheres are hollow and so they fill up a large portion of the volume but have little mass. This does make the mix considerably weaker, but surprisingly lightweight.
