My interests lie generally in the field of optical remote sensing - both passive and active - and digital image processing, particularly as it applies to spectral image data. In both cases, the primary application is to coastal systems. Current research on the passive side involves atmospheric correction of spectral image data, particularly over water, and the characterization of reflectance from rough surfaces. On the purely physical side, the primary work is in the modeling and measurement of the scattering properties of phytoplankton. Work with active systems involves expanding the use of bathymetric lidar data to extract information about the water column and the bottom type.
