CEE Alumni Roland Abi Nader named one of New York's "Top 20 Under 40"
Roland Abi Nader ’04 MEng was recently honored with selection to a list of New York’s “2014 Top 20 Under 40” by the authoritative weekly construction magazine Engineering News-Record. Abi Nader received his Master’s degree in Engineering Management from Cornell’s School of Civil and Environmental Engineering. His focus at Cornell was Project and Construction Management.
Shortly after receiving his Master’s from Cornell, Abi Nader joined AECOM Technology Corporation. He quickly rose from project controls manager to project manager to project leader. AECOM is the world’s number one provider of professional technical and management support services to a broad range of markets.
Currently, Abi Nader is managing the work on phase two of Delta Air Lines’ Concourse B renovation and expansion at JFK International Airport in New York City. The Concourse B renovation is a $1.4 billion project. He served as architectural manager on phase one of the same project. His previous work includes the Second Avenue Subway project, the Trans-Hudson Express Tunnel project, the Long Island City Public Library project, the Whitestone Bridge project, and serving as the owner’s representative of the Libyan Mission to the U.N.
In addition to his work for AECOM, Abi Nader was also recognized for his involvement in several professional groups, including the Construction Management Association of America, the Project Management Institute, and the American Society of Civil Engineers. Abi Nader is also active in the worldwide alumni association of the American University of Beirut, from which he received his B.E. in Civil Engineering.
His recognition as one of the “Top 20 Under 40” in the New York region follows an in-house award at AECOM for outstanding achievement in 2013. His father was an architect and on the AECOM company website, Abi Nader credits him for drawing his son into the field. “I can still remember my childhood summer days,” he says, “running around a jobsite, questioning workers about their work and monitoring the building process.”
