I interned at HNTB Corp. in the New York office for my sophomore and junior summers. I was fortunate to have been given a variety of work, including editing drawings, contracts, and calculations, for a variety of projects associated with bridges, drainage, and flood mitigation.

As I began my internship experience early on in my college career, I was fortunate to have great mentors at HNTB who were willing to spend the time to teach me skills I had not learned yet in school such as MicroStation and AutoCAD softwares. I was also introduced to transportation and hydraulics concepts, which proved as useful knowledge in courses the following year. Though I must say, my favorite parts of the internship experience were the field visits.

The best part of the job is getting to see your work on paper in person. Before this experience, I never knew of all of the elements that went into a large-scale engineering project. It was amazing to be able to attend meetings departments of city governments and partner firms and really get a feel for the number of people involved. I am excited to say that I will be returning to HNTB as a full time civil engineer.
